Chapter 1 Case Projects

1. 1. In this case, a server-based network should be used by XYZ Corporation. XYZ Corporation plans to hire 10 more in the next four months and users will work on multiple projects and those assigned to any one project should have access to the project files. Since each user will work on multiple projects, and only those users assigned to any one project should have access to the project files, a server-based network is best suited for the company where centralized user accounts, security, and access controls simplify network administration.
2. 2. Widgets, Inc. should use a peer-to-peer network. Since they have small numbers of employees and they want that every employee can be able to control resources on their own machines, they must use the peer-to-peer network. A peer-to-peer network can impose no centralized control over shared resources and any individual machine can share its resources on the same network, however and whenever the user chooses.
3. 3. American Tool and Die should choose a server-based network since they are operating in two different locations - Towson, Maryland and Beltsville, Maryland. Since they want to share a single database so that managers at each facilty can exhange work orders and monitor inventory on demand and 9individual users need some control over individual resources, a server-based network is best suited for the company.
4. 4. The kind of specialized servers to be installed in American Tool and Die are Fax Server and Database Server because they want a network faxing at each location.
